A peaceful protest by hundreds of people in downtown Las Vegas on Wednesday evening calling for an end to immigration enforcement raids escalated into confrontations with law enforcement.

“We want to tell America who Santa Ana is [and] what this immigration issue is all about,” Correa, a Democrat, said during a Tuesday morning press conference.

Another protest against federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids is taking place Wednesday. They are in solidarity with the protests in Los Angeles, where President Trump has deployed the National Guard and Marines despite objections from the city's mayor and California's governor.

Protests against immigration enforcement raids have sprung up across the country from Seattle and Austin to Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Immigrant advocates say the workers who were detained do not have criminal histories and are being denied their due process rights.

Protests are popping up in many areas of the United States following immigration enforcement raids in Los Angeles that prompted President Donald Trump to mobilize National Guard troops and Marines.

The soldiers' role is "solely to protect personnel to do their federal mission," Sherman said.
