More than 500 international students have had their visas revoked amid a wave of federal database removals as the Trump administration ramps up its crackdown on universities. Newsweek has contacted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for comment.
Multiple universities contacted by the USA TODAY Network regarding the visa cancellations declined to discuss specifics, citing student confidentiality. Immigration experts said they've never seen the federal government make such sweeping changes to the ordinarily low-profile process of hosting international students.
ICE agents detained 33-year-old Aditya Harsono in Marshall, Minnesota, just days after his student visa was abruptly revoked.
The recent graduates whose visas were revoked were on post-completion OPT status, according to university officials, which allows them to work in the US for up to one year after they graduate.
