Nearly a week after president of baseball operations David Stearns indicated that the team would focus on bolstering their bullpen at the trade deadline, the Mets made their first move in that direction, acquiring Orioles lefthander Gregory Soto in exchange for a pair of minor league pitchers – Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster.

The Mets acquired lefty reliever Gregory Soto from the Orioles, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported, strengthening the bullpen ahead of the MLB trade deadline. Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations, made it clear on July 21 he wanted to give manager Carlos Mendoza more proven commodities to cover the later innings.
