DALLAS - Dallas City Council members formally approved building a new practice facility for the Dallas Wings in Oak Cliff. The 12 to 2 vote did come with a bit of controversy.
The Memorial Auditorium is being renovated as part of a larger effort to re-envision the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, which is currently undergoing a $3.3 to 3.5 billion renovation.
The Dallas City Council will vote June 11 to adjust its contract with the Wings, which said the team would move to Memorial Auditorium in 2026 under a 15-year, $19 million use agreement.
In April 2024, the Dallas City Council approved an agreement for the Wings to move into Dallas Memorial Auditorium, and the construction of a practice facility in the city.
Their home court is expected to relocate to the Dallas Memorial Auditorium, which is part of the downtown convention center, by 2027.
Plans also call for reviving the Dallas Memorial Auditorium within the convention center to create a new home arena for the WNBA's Dallas Wings. WFAA-TV Dallas/Ft. Worth.
