Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened in green on Tuesday. While BSE Sensex moved up over 350 points, Nifty50 was above 23,750.

HDFC Bank Ltd shares were down 1.56 per cent at Rs 1,722 after the Q3 update. December was the third consequent quarter of sequential corporate loan decline as the banks continued to choose profitability over balance sheet growth.

The Sensex tumbled 1,258 points to close at 77,965, while the Nifty slumped 389 points to settle at 23,616, breaching key technical levels, including the 20-day and 50-day moving averages.

Highlights: All sectoral indices ended in the red, with Nifty PSU Bank being the worst hit, ending down by 4 per cent, dragged by Union Bank of India, and Bank of Baroda

The Indian stock market experienced a crash during the morning trading session as banking and metal stocks fell on 6, 2025.

The Sensex and Nifty50 index fell over 1% due to poor performance of private and state-owned banks as well as consumer sectors. On the brighter side, Bajaj Finance recorded a significant 28% YoY growth.

Sensex and Nifty 50 fell over a percent each amid heavy selling across the board. Broader markets also reeled under selling pressure as the Nifty Midcap 100 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 indices declined over 2% each.

The S P BSE Sensex was up 254.19 points to 79,477.30, while NSE Nifty50 gained 61.50 points to 24,066.25 as of 9:23 AM.
