ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio — More than 250 animals, including dogs, foxes, coyotes and opossums, have been removed from a fur and urine farm in Ashtabula County after they were found in what one official described as a “horrific” situation.

Foxes, raccoons, wolf-dog hybrids, skunks, opossums, and coyotes were living in filthy wire-bottom cages with little to no protection from the frigid conditions, the Humane Society of the United States said. Some of the animals had missing toes, ears, tails, and limbs.

The farm's owner had passed away, leaving 420 animals, including foxes, skunks, raccoons, wild boar, wolves, and wolf dogs, caged, starving, and freezing.
