The Daniel Carter Beard Bridge over the Ohio River will reopen Sunday evening, 100 days after a fire shut it down and a full month earlier than anticipated. The southbound span of the bridge — known as the Big Mac for its shape and color – should be back in service by the time Sunday's NFL Super Bowl game is over.

The southbound side of the Big Mac Bridge, or Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, has been closed since the morning of November 1, when the 1,000 Hands Playground beneath the bridge caught fire, causing serious damage.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine says that all lanes of the Daniel Beard Bridge, known as the Big Mac Bridge, will be reopening on Sunday evening.

For about a month, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has been working on pre-construction activities around the Francis Scott Key Bridge​.

The hum of machines can now be heard near the site of the Key Bridge. Pre-construction work is officially underway in anticipation of tearing down the existing piers and building the new bridge.
