Gophers men's hockey struck first against No. 12 Michigan on the road, but the Wolverines fought back and stole a point in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime battle. After a scoreless first period, captain Mason Nevers got Minnesota on the board with his fourth goal of the season.

Minnesota men's hockey team overcame a third-period deficit to force overtime before falling 3-2 at No. 12 Michigan Friday night from Yost Ice Arena.

The Gophers never trailed in forging a 2-2 tie at Michigan, with goals by Matthew Wood and Oliver Moore giving the visitors the lead in the first and third periods. But the post-overtime shootout again proved to be the Gophers’ undoing, as Michigan captured the game’s extra point.

Minnesota’s Jimmy Clark scored an even-strength goal on an assist by Aaron Huglen to knot the game 2-2 with 10:22 left in regulation. But 3 minutes into the extra frame, the Gophers’ Ryan Chesley was sent to the penalty box for hooking, and Edwards ended the game 24 seconds later.

The Gophers lost a shootout for the 11th time in a row and have not scored on 28 consecutive shootout attempts.

Minnesota (21-7-4 overall, 12-5-3 B1G) got goals from Matthew Wood and Oliver Moore to build a pair of one-goal advantages. The Wolverines (17-12-3 overall, 11-9-2 B1G) answered the goal each time before claiming the extra point in the Big Ten Standings by winning the shootout 1-0.
