The greatest battles Rory McIlroy has fought over the last 10 years have been with himself. This was never going to end any other way. At times on Sunday, it seemed like the only thing standing between McIlroy and victory was the space between his ears.

Rory McIlroy defeated Justin Rose on the first hole of sudden death to win the 89th Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. McIlroy and Rose finished regulation at 12 under par. McIlroy then birdied the first extra hole to win his first green jacket and complete the career Grand Slam.

Patrick Reed, the 2018 winner at Augusta National Golf Club, holed out for eagle on the par-4 17th to move into a solo third finish, his best performance in a major since sliding on the green jacket. Bryson DeChambeau was in the final pairing with Rory McIlroy but struggled to finish, closing in 3-over 75.
