South Dakota Republicans Jon Hansen and Karla Lems say their race will focus on property rights, spending and halting ‘corporate welfare.'

The pair officially announced their 2026 campaign to hundreds of supporters Thursday at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls.

Karla Lems has been in the Legislature for a shorter time but has made the most of it. As a landowner herself, she was also outspoken against the use of eminent domain for carbon pipelines, introducing House Bill 1052, which was signed into law in March.
