The two new defensemen seem to fit in like a glove in a very small sample size. Their ability to see the ice and help the transition games by skating with the puck or moving the puck up the ice with stretch passes fits head coach Patrick Roy 's M.O. to a tee. Both can play quarterback on the power play, a skill the Islanders desperately need.
The Islanders acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich from the Blues in exchange for a conditional 5th-round pick in the 2026 Draft.
Ryan Pulock and Marcus Hogberg were both placed on IR retroactive to Jan. 25 with upper-body injuries, Jakub Skarek recalled
Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock and goaltender Marcus Högberg have both landed on injured reserve after leaving Saturday’s overtime win over the Hurricanes with upper-body injuries, the team announced.
With the Islanders’ playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Romanov and Scott Mayfield — who will spell Dobson on the top pair — will be shouldering a huge burden starting with Friday’s match at UBS Arena against the Flyers.
The Islanders have won eight straight Saturday games (six at home and two on the road). The Isles are 14-13-3 in their last 30 games (8-0-0 on Saturday; 6-13-3 on other days). Ten of their last fourteen wins have come on Saturday or Sunday.
Noah Dobson and Ryan Pulock also scored, Marcus Hogberg made 18 saves and the Islanders snapped a two-game skid. Barclay Goodrow scored for San Jose and Alexandar Georgiev finished with 27 saves as the Sharks lost for the fifth time in six games (1-5-0).
The 5-10, 175-pound Perunovich logged 18:52 and was a plus-2 with two shots, earning enough of Roy’s trust to play key shifts in the third period. Tony DeAngelo, signed out of the KHL on Friday, played 22:11 with two blocked shots as he also earned his first point as an Islander with an assist in his second game.
Isles 3, Philadelphia 1. Anthony Duclair and Bo Horvat scored 55 seconds apart, late in the first period, as the Islanders rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 3-1 victory ov
Dobson suffered an injury to his right leg when it bent awkwardly after a check by Columbus’ Cole Sillinger 1:16 into the third period of Monday night’s 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets at UBS Arena. He left the ice and did not return.
Noah Dobson had just starting heating up for the Islanders, but the defenseman is out indefinitely after suffering a lower-body injury.
The two-game winning streak has helped the New York Islanders, but they remain in last place in the Metropolitan Division. That said, the recent games have shown how they can turn the season around and make a push for the playoffs.
