Jodie Burrage's Australian Open came to an end on Wednesday as she succumbed to a valiant 6-3, 7-5 defeat to American world No. 3 Coco Gauff.

The 25-year-old Briton admitted ahead of the tournament that she considered quitting the sport a couple of months ago, but she tasted victory in the main draw at Melbourne Park for the first time with a 6-2 6-4 success against French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean.

Coco Gauff extended her unbeaten start to the year on Wednesday but admitted she will need to serve better if she is to stay alive at the Australian Open. Gauff lost in the Australian Open semi-final last year to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.
