Candlepin bowling — so called because of the distinctive pin shape — has been around since 1880, yet is mostly played within the US New England and Canadian Maritime provinces.
Colonial Bowling, opened in the 1960s by the Anderson brothers, was once one of many candlepin bowling alleys in the city. Most accounts have Mr. White inventing the game in 1880.
