Drivers will spread brine, a saltwater solution that helps prevent ice from forming on the road, on 20,000 miles of road in the region. Throughout the day Wednesday, trucks filled their tanks with the brine at GDOT’S Maintenance Activities Unit in Forest Park. Trucks have come in from other regions of the state to lend assistance.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says their crews are getting ready to roll out and treat the highways before winter weather moves in later this week. They told Channel 2′s Bryan Mims that they will spread brine on the highways across northwest Georgia starting at 7 p.

As metro Atlanta braces for potential rain and ice on Friday and over the weekend, Gov. Brian Kemp said he has mobilized crews to help prepare.

With the possibility of snow and a wintry mix in both the Atlanta area and north Georgia, Kemp has released a plan of action and preparation.
