A transgender doctor was left feeling "distressed" and "afraid" after being told by a nurse not to use the women's changing rooms at work, an employment tribunal has heard.

Dr Beth Upton said she did not intend any harm to anyone by using the female changing area at the hospital where she worked.

Dr Beth Upton is accused of sexual harassment by nurse Sandie Peggie. The mother of a nurse who accused a transgender doctor of sexual harassment has said her daughter was “not her normal self” on Christmas Day after an encounter in the female changing room at work, a tribunal heard.

A trans doctor felt “unsafe” following a nurse's “hurtful and demeaning” remarks in the women’s changing room they were both using at work, an employment tribunal has heard. The tribunal heard that nurse Sandie Peggie allegedly compared Dr Upton to a transgender rapist and had told the doctor “as a man (Dr Upton) couldn’t be in the changing room”.

A nurse was so “embarrassed” about having to undress in front of a transgender doctor that she went to wait in the corridor, a Dundee tribunal has heard. Dr Beth Upton said that they had as much right as nurse Sandie Peggie to be in the changing room.
