A suspect was charged with attempted murder in connection with stabbing a Camden County police officer on Sunday night, officials said.

"While out of his vehicle for 58 seconds, speaking to an individual outside of the store, a second unknown male approached him from behind and brutally stabbed him in the neck," said Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

A Camden police officer was stabbed in the neck Sunday evening in an unprovoked attack at Broadway and Chestnut streets while talking to another person, a police spokesperson said.
