Florida, DeSantis and Alligator Alcatraz

The DeSantis administration quickly filed an appeal following a Thursday order to dismantle parts of Alligator Alcatraz, a migrant detention facility near the Florida Everglades.
Nearly two months after the hasty and controversial birth of “Alligator Alcatraz,” a federal judge has slammed the brakes on the operation, ruling that no more detainees can be housed at the remote migrant detention camp deep in the marshy wetlands of the Everglades.
The ruling, which gives the state 60 days to act, comes as Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to convert a prison in North Florida into a second immigrant detention site.
