Scattered, smothered, and surcharge free: Waffle House takes its egg surcharge off the menu
Waffle House has ended its egg surcharge. The restaurant chain has been charging an extra 50 cents per egg since February to balance the high price of eggs following an avian flu outbreak earlier this year. Waffle House serves 272 million eggs per year.
"Egg-cellent news…as of June 2, the egg surcharge is officially off the menu," said the post. "Thanks for understanding!" USA TODAY reached out to Waffle House to confirm the change.
Waffle House has dropped its 50 cent surcharge on eggs as supplies rebound. The chain added the temporary charge in February, when avian flu sent egg prices to record highs.
