Senate Republicans are panning President Trump’s proposal for the United States to take over war-torn Gaza and push nearly 2 million Palestinians in the region to resettle elsewhere, with several GOP lawmakers dismissing the plan as unrealistic.

Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians out of Gaza and take over the territory was rejected by several foreign nations, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and China.

House Republicans responded to President Trump's comments about the U.S. taking ownership of the Gaza Strip. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., called the claim "a surprising development," but believes his party will "applaud" it.

Republican lawmakers were just as surprised as the rest of the country when President Donald Trump suggested the United States should take over Gaza late Tuesday. And many of them still are unsure what to think.
