After several days of freezing temperatures, snow, sleet and rain fell in North Texas Thursday, bringing travel disruptions in the air and on the ground, school closures and upending a region that doesn’t often see frozen precipitation.

A system that's brought snow across several states is expected to reach the Wilmington area by Friday afternoon.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WAFF) - A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all North Alabama and Middle Tennessee counties through 6:00 AM CST Saturday. Snow showers have developed overnight and will become more widespread through the early morning hours.

Snow will remain the predominant precipitation type much of Friday morning, but toward midday a switch over to some sleet and/or freezing rain is likely generally south of the Tennessee River. Some rain may also mix in through the afternoon as surface temperatures go just above freezing.

Models are in better agreement on the development of this weekend’s storm, but there are still some details to nail down.

Moisture and a mix of precipitation should start to move into the metroplex from the southwest starting in the morning to the mid-morning hours.

It is currently snowing in the Tennessee Valley! We will all get mostly snow through through the early morning hours. However by late breakfast time counties south of the Tennessee River will develop a dominant wintry mix overhead with freezing rain and sleet.
