A tsunami advisory has expired for parts of California after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula​, prompting concern.

The National Weather Service says tsunami advisories are now lifted for most of the Northern California coast as of late Wednesday morning after the massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake sent waves across the Pacific.

Tsunami advisory has been cancelled for Bay Area, Central Coast, but officials urge caution as dangerous coastal conditions expected through the day.

The advisory includes the San Francisco Bay Area, including Sonoma, Napa, Larkspur, Vallejo, San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Monterey and other ocean and bayside communities.

One of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded has sent a tsunami crashing into a Russian port and smaller waves barreling across the Pacific to the Americas and south to New Zealand.

Tsunami warnings were lifted across the Pacific rim Wednesday, allowing millions of temporary evacuees to return home.

An earthquake near Russia caused tsunami warning in Hawaii and across the west coast. The earthquake was the fifth strongest every recorded. Though not much damage was done, tsunami waves did hit Hawaii.
