Lubbock and much of the South Plains are under a winter weather advisory through 6 a.m. Friday, with additional snow accumulations of an inch or less and winds gusting as high as 40 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

With a winter storm set to impact North Texas starting early Thursday, parents and students are scrambling to stay informed about school closings. As icy roads and freezing temperatures approach, districts across the region are updating their plans.

With Central Texas still experiencing winter weather, some school districts are making operational changes for Friday, Jan. 10.
