An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in a Manhattan park on Saturday following an apparent robbery gone wrong, New York City police and federal officials said.

A second suspect in the weekend shooting of an off-duty United States Border Patrol agent in a New York City park has been taken into custody, authorities said on Monday. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said an accomplice of the suspect in the shooting and wounding of the off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was detained over night.

An off-duty Customs and Border Patrol agent was shot in New York City’s Riverside Park late Saturday night in an alleged robbery that did not appear to target him because of his job, police said.
