Passengers were stuck on a Eurostar train in the Channel Tunnel for two-and-a-half hours after an apparent breakdown of the London to Paris service. They are finally expected to arrive in the French capital six hours behind schedule.

Hundreds of passengers faced festive travel misery after a Eurostar train broke down in the Channel Tunnel leaving them stuck for two-and-a-half hours. The first train of the day left St Pancras International on time at 6.

A Eurostar train was hit by a "technical problem" in the Channel Tunnel, causing a six-hour delay to passengers travelling from London to Paris.

But around an hour into the journey, the Eurostar service broke down in the channel. Gaby Koppel, a television producer told The Independent: ‘We stopped in the tunnel about an hour into the journey,
