CHICAGO — Wintry conditions impacted Chicagoland on Monday, with frigid wind chills and periods of lake-effect snow as a major winter storm swept through the Midwest to the south of the city.

Untreated roads will be slippery as freezing drizzle sets the stage for more snow to come, a local meteorologist said.

It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.

The seasonably cold January weather is sticking around Chicagoland this week. Early-morning temperatures Wednesday were in the single digits away from the lake and in the teens closer to the lake, with winds out of the northwest dropping wind-chill values to around zero in some locations.
