The British prime minister is raising the requirements in concert with an immigration crackdown to end the U.K.'s "failed experiment in open borders."
In Monday’s Downing Street speech, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer pledged that his Labour government would “take back control of our borders” and “tighten up every area of the immigration system”. The speech was met with backlash as some claimed it echoed the racially charged Rivers of Blood speech made by Enoch Powell in 1968.
China has criticised the UK-US trade deal in a major blow to Keir Starmer’s bid to improve relations with the communist country. Beijing said it was a “basic principle” that such agreements should not target other nations.
Sir Keir Starmer is set to increase co-operation with Albania on tackling illegal immigration and organised crime as he visits the country on Thursday.
