Governor Ron DeSantis held a news conference to announce the expansion of the Hope Florida program, which concerns some lawmakers after a fiscal analysis claims the charity arm does not comply with state law.

Casey DeSantis started Hope Florida in 2021. It has a toll-free phone number, website and case management system to help single parents, young people aging out of foster care, veterans and others in need. Hope Florida connects people with religious organizations, nonprofits, governments and the private sector.

The Hope Florida Foundation is operating as a “direct support organization” under state law, but apparently not complying with any of the provisions of that law, the House analysis notes.
