A death row inmate in South Carolina has chosen a firing squad for his execution. Brad Sigmon was convicted of murdering two people during a 2002 burglary in Greenville County. A jury found Sigmon guilty of beating the parents of his estranged girlfriend to death with a baseball bat.

On Friday, he became the first South Carolina inmate to choose the state’s new firing squad over lethal injection or the electric chair. Only three inmates in the U.S. have been executed by firing squad since 1976.
