Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on Wednesday hit back at President-elect Donald Trump’s vow to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America,” joking that the United States should instead be renamed “Mexican America.

As is often the case with Trump, it’s unclear whether his remarks are to be taken at face value or if he's simply trying to stir the pot.

Mexico's president sarcastically said that the U.S. should be called "Mexican America" after Trump's vow to rename the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."
