An Alabama state judge has ordered a mental health evaluation to see if a man on death row with a history of mental illness is competent to be executed.
Bear Fretwell, a 2026 offensive tackle recruit, has flipped his commitment from Georgia Tech to Alabama, he told Rivals on Friday. Fretwell is 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive lineman from Georgia. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as a three-star prospect and the No. 55 offensive tackle in the class and the No. 622 player overall.
Shawnia Williams, a new jail guard at Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest, was arrested July 23 and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, the Alabama Department of Corrections said in a July 25 news release.
Fretwell is yet another flip for an Alabama class full of flips, joining players such as quarterback Jett Thomalla (Iowa State), running back Javari Barnett (Illinois), safety Rihyael Kelley (Rutgers) and Xavier Griffin (USC). Fretwell gives Alabama its first true tackle in the 2026 recruiting class.
