President Biden issued an executive order today aimed at speeding the development of AI data centers in the US. It directs the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Energy (DOE) to lease federal sites to private companies building gigawatt-scale AI data centers and clean power facilities.

Under the new rules, the departments of Defense and Energy will each identify at least three sites where the private sector can build AI data centers.
