Kevin Willard has agreed to become Villanova’s next head coach, leaving Maryland in need of a head coach after the men’s basketball program’s first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2016.

Maryland guard Rodney Rice is heading to the transfer portal, a source confirmed to 247Sports' Travis Branham on Monday. It’s a significant loss for a program now suddenly in flux, just days removed from Willard accepting the Villanova job after three seasons with the Terps.
“The transfer portal is crazy,” Willard said on Team980 radio, per John Fanta. “There are kids asking for $2-3 million right now. The money has exploded crazy because we have no guardrails. We have no rules. It’s been as badly of a rule implemented as ever. And agents are taking advantage of it.”
The 6-foot-1 guard earned Third-Team All- Big Ten honors after averaging 14.7 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game. He was also one of the league’s most efficient shooters, knocking down 40.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Maryland fans aren’t sorry to see Kevin Willard go to Villanova, but the the university shouldn’t ignore lessons from his abrupt departure.
